WIAT Scoring-I have a headache

Ok so i have finished testing my son, all the raw scored have been recorded and all the standard scores have been recorded and all the necessary quartile scores have been recorded.

Now, I am terribly anxious to see where he falls on that large bell curve in the parent report, but I have no idea how to plot the scores. Appendix H talks about the score predictions. Are we supposed to use the WPPSI-R, the WISC-III, or the WAIS-III to plot the scores? Also are we doing a Full scale IQ (FSIQ) or a Verbal IQ (VIQ), or what?

My eyes have started to see double, I will take a break now ha ha.

  1. Amy,

In order to obtain a FSIQ you would need to use another assessment such as the co-normed WISC-IV. You can still plot the scores on tne bell curve. I am working on a video to help with that.

  2. Ok I am not sure I understand. I am not seeing the WISC-IV in the book, but i do see a WISC-III, can we use that?

Also I have another question for you. On the sections where it says we can use a tape recorder, like for oral expression, can we just submit the tapes we use or do you want us to transpose what is on the tapes onto the record document?

Am I making any sense at all?

  3. We will administer the WISC in the IQ testing class in the fall semester. We will only focus on acheivement testing in this course. You can keep your son's test results from this semester and compare them to the IQ scores you obtain next fall. They are not reluable scores but it is still interesting to know.

Yes, you will need to write anything on the tape recorder into the boxes on the protocol. Tapes are too hard to keep track of and also not many people will go to the trouble of listening to them. They want all the info right there, easily accessible.

You are making sense. I am happy to hear that you putting things together in your mind about testing. Yes, you are missing a crucial piece of information to make educational decisions, the IQ scores! Big difference between the WIAT and the WISC!

    Great job.

  4. Ahhh so have I gone as far as I can with the scores? Do I plot the points on the bell curve using the standard scores and the quartile scores?

  5. You can if you want. Because we so not have IQ scores it is not necessary to complete the Ability-Achievement Discrepancy Analysis. You may go to work for a district that wants that page filled out, but most will not require it. We will move into the interpretation of these scores in the next couple of weeks.
