Questions

Hi Mrs. Anderson,

I started testing my daughter with the WIAT-II. I have a few questions.
When testing in Reading Comprehension, can a student go back to the
passage and look for the answer after the examiner has asked the question?

For a 9th grader in Reading Comprehension, we start in item 94 and stop at
item 127; however, somewhere in the middle between 7th and 8th grade
items, there is grades 13-16. I skipped items 108-112 but I am not sure
if that is the right procedure. If it is, how does it affect the total
raw score?

Do I include the lower grades max total raw scores with actual 9th grade
raw scores?

Thank you for your assistance!

  1. I believe that the student can refer back to the passage after they read it. I would encourage them to not spend too much time and you should make a note on the protocol that they referenced the passage after the time limit was up. I will double check on that. If you are testing a ninth grader you will start and stop at the designated points. The test is designed so that the reading comprehension has some overlap. As long as you stay true to the starting and stopping grade points the results will be accurate. Only include those points for your ninth grader. Don't skip any questions in the middle of the ninth grade start and stop points, even if they are labeled for other grades. I am in the road this weekend so as soon as I can get my test kit I will provide you with specific start and stop points for a ninth grader.

Hope this helps and didn't confuse you more!

  2. Lisa,

I see you have the starting and stopping points. Start at 94 and don't stop until you reach 127. Do not omit any questions in between. Only record those points awarded for questions 94-127.
